About
Dr. Ondine Gage is a Professor of Education with an MA in Linguistics and expertise in TESOL, and a Ph.D. in Education with a concentration in Language, Literacy, and Culture studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz. She joined the College of Education at CSU Monterey Bay in 2015. As a professor in the College of Education, she has coordinated the University Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee for Written Communication from 2015 to 2019. In 2019, she was appointed Faculty Assessment Associate for the College of Education. She also chaired the Academic Senate Committee on International Programs for CSUMB from 2019 to 2023 and served on the CSU International Programs committee as CSUMB representative from 2020 to 2023. She currently teaches courses in linguistics and language acquisition, as well as writing for Liberal Studies, where she focuses on preparing teachers to work effectively with the multilingual and diverse populations in California’s public schools and the world. Her research and areas of interest include Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) /International Virtual Exchange (IVE), language awareness, functional linguistics, metacognition in writing and genre development, and vocabulary development. She has served on the CATESOL Board as Chapter Council Chair and Elementary Education Representative. She coordinated a TESOL program (2002 to 2006) and taught in South Korea (2006), and has extensive experience living and working in the Middle East and Europe. She is currently the Chair of the Association for Language Awareness 2026 Conference in Monterey, California.
