About
Dr. Canner received her Ph.D. in Biomathematics and Zoology from North Carolina State University.
Leadership
She joined the Department of Mathematics and Statistics Department at CSUMB in 2010 and since established the Statistics Minor, Data Science Minor, and the Statistics & Data Science Major. Dr. Canner is a Board Member of the California Alliance for Data Science Education, and past chair of the ASA-MAA Joint Committee on Undergraduate Statistics and Data Science Education, the Special Interest Group of the MAA on Statistics and Data Science Education, and Posters and Beyond for the electronic and Uniteds States Conference on Teaching Statistics. Her goal is to support the development of statistics and data science training for all students so that they are prepared for the modern workforce. She currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
Research
As a Quantitative Ecologist, Dr. Canner studied ant-plant mutualisms, modeling population growth and spread. She has consulted on projects in butterfly conservation, oceanography, agriculture, kinesiology, and pscyhology, as well as numerous projects in education. Her current research focuses on statistics and data science education, funded through the NSF.
